End of Life and Palliative Care

End-of-Life and Palliative Care

Physicians and nurses encounter difficulties in their practice of Palliative Care. They do need a good understanding of ethical principles and precedents. Dr. Lowy will describe the state of palliative care in the USA and the integration of bioethical principles in the care of patients with serious/terminal illness. He will review the spectrum of paternalism, patient autonomy, shared decision-making, truth-telling, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice.
