Protecting Human Subjects in Research: Why we do what we do

Introduction to Human Cloning Technologies

This session will explore the importance of institutional review board review and informed consent in protecting individuals who participate in research. We will start with the basic requirements, discuss various situations that have occurred over the years providing us with insights and focus for the future, and we will also go over some case studies that will require the students to go into more detail on the issue of who is a human subject; why do have certain limitations; and what are the issues relating to genomic research that make this more complicated today. We will conclude with a discussion of access to investigational agents as well as another exercise relating to this very controversial topic.
