Lessons from Medieval Dubrovnik: Quarantine and COVID-19 in Croatia
The syntagma CROvid-20 (or CroVID) is used in the current pandemic in Croatia. Dubrovnik was the first city in the world to introduce quarantine to control the spread of the Plague in 1377 and is the most important contribution of Croats to the medieval world health heritage. Our guests will highlight some historical aspects of Dubrovnik quarantine including COVID-19 and key ethical issues related to its economic impact, the scarcity of resources, the responsibilities of healthcare workers, the individual rights vs. public welfare and the earthquake impact in Zagreb during the pandemic.
